| Our new design seamlessly incorporates a reading light into the cover, so you can carry your Kindle wherever you go and always have a reading light with you. Simply pull the light out to illuminate Kindle when you need it, and slide it away to be invisible when you don't. And since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed. The contoured, pebble-grain leather (available in 7 different colors) keeps your Kindle safe and secure, while the soft charcoal microfiber interior protects the screen from scratches. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand. The built-in, retractable LED light pulls out to illuminate Kindle, and slides away when not in use. Never Be Without a Light Our all-new Kindle cover features an integrated, retractable LED reading light that lets you read comfortably anytime, anywhere. The high-quality LED light illuminates Kindle's paper-like display, adding brightness without adding glare. A permanent part of the cover, the reading light is located in the top right-hand corner of the back cover. When needed, simply pull the light out and it automatically illuminates, eliminating the need for a separate power switch. To turn the light off, slide it back in to the corner of the cover. Since the light is powered by Kindle's battery, no batteries are needed. How It Works In addition to securing Kindle in place, our new hinge system conducts electricity from Kindle's battery to the reading light - when Kindle is attached to the hinge, an electrical connection is formed that powers the light. The cover's hinge points are gold-plated, to ensure a reliable electrical connection. Gold is used because of its ability to make good electrical contact even with low force, and for its corrosion resistance. Secure Your Kindle in Four Easy Steps Read Comfortably with One Hand Reading with the cover on, you can easily access Kindle's navigation features and power switch, while the rounded edges offer a perfect fit in your hands. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand. And the retractable reading light is easily accessible with the cover open or folded back. On the Go This compact cover is perfect for taking Kindle wherever you go. The sleek leather ensures the ultimate fit and protection, without adding bulk or weight. Our patent-pending hinge system secures Kindle in place, and an elastic strap keeps the cover firmly closed for maximum screen protection. Simply attach Kindle to the hinge, apply the strap, and rest assured it will stay securely in place even when you're on the go. You'll never be without a reading light, and since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed. Amazon’s official Kindle lighted cover features contoured, pebble-grain leather available in 7 different colors. | | Read Kindle easily in the dark with Amazon's revolutionary, all-new lighted leather cover. The hinge points are gold-plated to ensure a reliable electrical connection. No batteries required. Read easily with one hand, with or without the light on. An UPS nightmare: how Amazon and UPS can make your life suck September 9, 2010 Rogério De Souza Farias (Brazil) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, the story is long but I will not dwell into the details. Let's just say I bought my Kindle and its cover in the beginning of August. I live in Mali (Africa) and I paid the most expensive shipping method Amazon had to deliver both products to a friend's house in Quebec, Canada.
My friend's intercom does not work and despite posting on the intercom that information the UPS guy refused to follow his simple instructions to deliver it. After three attempts, UPS sent me an email stating that they would "CONTACT THE SENDER WITH DETAILS".
Amazon until now did not contact me or my friend, neither UPS did.
Then UPS said that "THE RECEIVER CANCELED THE ORDER AND REFUSED THIS DELIVERY". That is a terrible lie. Until now neither me or my friend cancelled or refused anything. We were just waiting for instructions to pick up the order in an UPS store or be contacted by UPS.
In several emails Amazon just gave a partial refund for my shipment and also gave me a phone number to call UPS. Well, it is not my job call them as Amazon is the sender and it was their decision to use UPS to Canada. Nonetheless, I called UPS customer service and talked to them for about ten minutes to discover that Amazon gave me the wrong phone number (I needed a Canadian UPS customer services'number).
Meanwhile, Amazon sent me an email stating that my box will go back to their headquarters and that I will receive a refund.
That is not what I wanted and the only thing I can say to you is: if you live abroad and need Amazon to deliver something to you really fast paying the most expensive shipping method, give up. Just enter on a reliable store and buy it.
Another tip: just buy an Ipad or a Nook. At least you don't waste your time arguing with powerless Amazon employees that have no capacity to deal with their own mistakes.
Now that I am on a vacation, and probably will not have my Kindle to read, my hobby will be tell my case in all blogs, websites and forums that you can imagine.
Love it except for........ September 9, 2010 kwajkat (Silverdale, WA United States) Love everything about this cover except for the brightness and coverage of the light. I would like to see the light to be abit more brighter so I can see the keyboard characters and also to light up the screen better. While the lower part of the screen is somewhat lit, it is fairly dim for me. If I need to use the keyboard I cannot see what I am pushing.
Other than that I find this cover to be really nice. Love the steel blue color. I would like to see a strap or something to hold your hand in while reading. Guess I am spoiled by the M-edge platform and the pocket to slip my hand in while holding it.
Couldn't Ask For A better Cover September 9, 2010 Thirdseason 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm REALLY glad i bought this lighted cover! I was so hesitant between lighted/non-lighted. I have recessed lighting in my living room (maybe dimmed) and a ceiling fan that has a light in the middle (maybe dimmed), just wasn't enough light, even if full blast so this cover is perfect with the built in light, i don't want to use it in pitch black of course because it is a bright light, but it's wonderful in dimmed recessed lighting for a laxed view. And truly i never relized that w/out a "booklight" how much eyestrain there is w/tring to read the pages/kindle! It of course like other reviews is heavier then the Kindle itself. But it doesn't bother me, I acutally enjoy it. Makes the Kindle easier to hang on too, and its really like reading a paperback book, the front flap of the cover bends back perfectly so you can use the bungy strap to hold in place. The light clicks in place when not in use, and when its in use it will click until turned on, and its very easy to put back in it corner home. The hinges.. LOVE the hinges. The top sliding hinge moves with ease. I bought an MEdge case for the K2 and basically had to force the K2 into the cover because the hinge would not slide.. needless to say i sent it back to Medge and order the Amazon cover. honestly if you looking for a cover go with Amazon! And the price for this Lighted cover really isnt bad! You'd be paying the same if not more for the cover + the light. So i dont know why people are complaining about the price. Alot of covers on here are 80+ and a light alone is $20. So your really getting the best of both worlds.
A solid cover September 9, 2010 Alice Y. Yeh (Ann Arbor, MI USA) I vacillated for a good three weeks over whether or not to purchase this cover. In the end, the built-in light suckered me in, and I was relieved to find that I didn't have to send the cover back.
It's certainly sturdy, and I breathe a bit easier while traveling knowing that my Kindle is protected. The leather was more textured than I'd expected, which is neither good nor bad. Thankfully, the red is more classy than clownish, and the bungee cord feels like it will last for quite some time.
Like others, I've found the light a bit difficult to pull out, and I usually find myself worrying about breaking it as I do so. It works quite well and illuminates the entire screen, and as an added feature, it shuts off when your Kindle goes into sleep mode. How very nifty.
Overall, this is a high quality cover. I'm not a fan of the grey interior or bungee cord v. snap closure, but the functionality makes up for these minor deficiencies. It's all a matter of preference, anyway :)
Pleasantly Surprised September 8, 2010 M. Mansoura (Brooklyn, NY United States) The case is good quality leather. It does add weight to the kindle, but is more compact/slimmer than I imagined.
Jeers to Amazon for their poor representation of their product. The pictures they've posted do not do the case justice and the colors look way off. I have posted several pics of the Steel Blue, Hot Pink, and Apple Green cases so be sure to check them out before you buy. I do find the green a bit drab and will be sending it back. I'm torn between the pink and blue.
The built in light is very convenient and lights the ENTIRE screen. Yes, there is it a little brighter in the upper right corner, but it is not as drastic as it appears in photos.
I am quite pleased with the case. I wish it could be a little lighter, but the weight is to be expected with a leather case.
